Every time I attend a service conference of Alcoholics Anonymous, I experience a deep feeling of gratitude to be a member of this fellowship. A recent example is the Conference of Delegates Past and Present (CDPP), held in Muncie, IN, on Feb. 9-11. It is a gathering of AA service representatives of the East Central Region (ECR). The ECR ismade up of 5 states, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. This conference helps prepare Delegates for the General Service Conference in April.
Our ECR Trustee, Cathi C., reported that contributions for 2023 were over budget and that the percentage of online contributions has increased. The response from our fellowship to our General Manager’s November 2023 letter asking for additional contributions was overwhelmingly positive. Online contributions allow more dollars to reach the bottom line. Please contribute online if possible.
Literature sales used to be the main source of operating funds for our General Service Office (GSO). Because of production costs, this is no longer the case. While literature sales will continue to be important, group contributions and individual contributions are now the primary source of operating funds for GSO. MORE GROUPS MUST CONTRIBUTE. Currently in Area 56, 38.11% of our groups contribute to GSO. This percentage is a little bit above the average of all groups in the United States and Canada of 33.48%. These figures are reported on page 125 of the 2023 Final Report. The entire report is available on aa.org. Surely, our groups in Area 56 can reach a 50% contribution percentage.
March 15 and 16 is the 41st Annual Mini-Conference for Area 56. This conference is designed to provide your Delegate with an “area conscience” about select Agenda Items.
